Say What?

By early April, in most years it seems we would most certainly be doing a little bit of digging in the yard. Remembering the past and planning for the future. Time travel.
This year is very different from others as snow remains piled all around. Overwintering vegetables and perennials are buried under feet of snow and a long way out of reach.
In other years one of the first plants to climb into the world from the warming ground is the narcissus. I have written about the plant with the famous name before and have made drawings and paintings of it for years but each year brings new questions.
I wonder how did the plant become named after a Greek legend. I wonder if it is because the bloom unfurls at a human speed one petal at a time allowing the viewer time to experience change. Try it for yourself the possibilities are endless, you will be amazed.

Daydreaming

Sometimes it seems as if drawing and painting are an extension of daydreaming.
There is most certainly a requirement for physical control in art making that is not there when we allow ourselves to daydream but the internal feeling is similar. In both cases there can be a physical detachment from the "real world", a space without time or obligation.
